Presence to Gratitude

Today before you think of saying an unkind word – think of someone who can’t speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food – think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your spouse or partner – think of someone who is desperately wanting a companion.

Today before you complain about life – think of someone who has passed away.

Before you complain about your children - think of someone who desires children but can't have them.

Before you complain about your childhood and parents - think of a child that had it worse than you and didn't make it.

Before you argue about your dirty house, someone didn’t clean or sweep - think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the distance you drive – think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet with no car.

And when you are tired and complain about your job – think of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wished they had your job.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down – put a smile on your face and go do something for your someone more needy than you!

Life is an incredible gift - if you can see it that way!!!  Just take some time to smell the roses!!!

Life is short.

I truly believe that the whole point of our existence is to LOVE and HAVE FUN.  Now - it does take some thinking and consciousness to ascertain what lasting joy looks like for YOU - as we are all individuals with our own tastes and desires. So the key is to follow these simple steps:

1.  Learn to be the master of your mind - to be able to silence it - so that you can connect more with your soul (aka gut, inner knowing, intuition etc).  This can be done a variety of ways but the ones that have worked for me is disconnecting from electronics and either walking through nature, doing hot yoga or meditating.

2.  Practice feeling sensations in your body to alert you of what you should do more of, who you should spend time with and what energizes you physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.  You can start this by taking notice of how people or foods affect you.  Keep a journal so that you can relate the experiences with the feelings.

3.  Get intentional about your life.  Now that you have quieted your mind and learned to listen for your passions, it's time to put that into practice.  Spend time with people that inspire love.  Do creative things that make you smile.  Eat foods that help you feel light and airy.  Move your body through an exercise that excites you.  Make your money through a cause that you truly believe in.  Make the most of every second that you have breath.

And through this process make sure to BE KIND.  To yourself.  To others.  Enjoy it all - especially the contrasts.
